Window Restrictors in Service Family Accommodation - Important - Window Safety Check Required

As we approach the warmer months of the year, it is really important to check that the window restrictors in the upstairs of your property are working correctly, especially if you have children.

You can do this by:

- Engaging the window restrictor (putting the lock/latch on) and trying to fully open the window. The restrictor should only allow the window to be opened a small way

- Look at your window restrictor. It should have the BS kite safety mark stamped on it (shown below)

If you are concerned that your window restrictor is not working correctly please call us on
0800 707 6000 option 1.
If you are moving into your property, your Accommodation Officer will check the window restrictors for you and show you how they work.

Status of EU Citizens in the UK: What You Need To Know

Since the result of the referendum last summer, the UK government has made it absolutely clear how important it is that we secure, as early as possible, both the rights of EU citizens in the UK and UK nationals in EU Member States.

There is no need for EU citizens living in the UK to do anything now. There will be no change to the status of EU citizens living in the UK while the UK remains in the EU.

Pet Loss Support for Children

Children and young people can become very attached to pets for a variety of reasons…

When a pet dies, it may be a child or young person’s first experience of the death or loss of something close to them.

They may feel that they have lost their best friend, an important member of their family and they may feel very sad and lonely. Feelings of numbness, disbelief and denial may be common. Sometimes anger or guilt may also be felt for something they did or said that makes them think they contributed to the death.

Calories in Alcohol

Did you know a standard glass of wine can contain as many calories as a piece of chocolate, and a pint of lager has about the same calorie count as a packet of crisps?

The average wine drinker in England takes in around 2,000kcal from alcohol every month.

Drinking five pints of lager a week adds up to 44,200kcal over a year, equivalent to eating 221 doughnuts.

Summer Care for Your Dog

It is important to not only look after yourself over the heat of summer, but you should also take care of your pet's needs. Here are a few things to keep in mind to ensure your pet enjoys summer as much as you do!

Keeping cool and sun protection:   Make sure your pet has access to cool, shady areas in your house or backyard. Always make sure your pet has access to lots of cool drinking water. If you’re going out for the day, try dropping a few ice blocks into their water bottle or bowl, so that the water stays colder for longer.
