SSAFA Mentoring for Service Leavers

SSAFA Mentoring can motivate, support and empower service leavers who are leaving the Forces.

Whether you are leaving on a medical discharge, are an early service leaver or have come to the end of your career, mentoring is a powerful tool to help achieve your true potential outside the military.

SSAFA will give you one-to-one support during your transition onto Civvy Street and afterwards for up to one year. During that time your mentor will support you to achieve your personal goals as you move into civilian life.

Status of EU Citizens in the UK: What You Need To Know

Since the result of the referendum last summer, the UK government has made it absolutely clear how important it is that we secure, as early as possible, both the rights of EU citizens in the UK and UK nationals in EU Member States.

There is no need for EU citizens living in the UK to do anything now. There will be no change to the status of EU citizens living in the UK while the UK remains in the EU.

Calories in Alcohol

Did you know a standard glass of wine can contain as many calories as a piece of chocolate, and a pint of lager has about the same calorie count as a packet of crisps?

The average wine drinker in England takes in around 2,000kcal from alcohol every month.

Drinking five pints of lager a week adds up to 44,200kcal over a year, equivalent to eating 221 doughnuts.

You can find out the calories in many more drinks using the Drinkaware unit and calorie calculator.

Don't Get Caught by a Smishing Scam

Smishing – the term used for SMS phishing – is an activity which enables criminals to steal victims’ money or identity, or both, as a result of a response to a text message. Smishing uses your mobile phone (either a smartphone or traditional non-internet connected handset) to manipulate innocent people into taking various actions which can lead to being defrauded.

The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau has received information that fraudsters are targeting victims via text message, purporting to be from their credit card provider, stating a transaction has been approved on their credit card.

The text message further states to confirm if the transaction is genuine by replying ‘Y’ for Yes or ‘N’ for No.

Through this method the fraudster would receive confirmation of the victim’s active telephone number and would be able to engage further by asking for the victim’s credit card details, CVV number (the three digits on the back of your bank card) and/or other personal information.
